One of my favorite stones to work with is the brilliant blue lapis lazuli. If you’re not familiar with the gemstone, it’s one of the most storied in human artisanship. The stone itself has been used as decoration–such as in jewelry–for millennia; Cleopatra even used its powder as eye shadow. The pigment derived from it has been used in paintings, starting in Asia and moving to Europe by the Renaissance.
Featured in this post is a series of jewelry designs I’ve created mixing lapis lazuli with other gemstones for very different effects. Each one of these is available for purchase at my online store. You definitely can’t go wrong with lapis lazuli, as it is a classic stone that has stood the test of time, and will continue to awe its onlookers for millennia to come. Sometimes it’s good to feel–and wear–blue!
